Constantinople, inspired by Penhaligon's Constantinople (2021)

Pink pepper and a chilled, almost frosty lavender create the main contrast here. Iris and geranium bring a powdery, slightly rosy floral layer, and rose itself appears in the heart. In the drydown the scent turns woody and ambery, with patchouli and oakmoss giving it a mossy, earthy finish that vanilla rounds off.

About the original

Penhaligon's launched Constantinople in mid-2021 as part of the Trade Routes collection, describing it as created for the Queen of Cities. Press at the time described pink pepper and 'frozen' lavender set against rose and geranium, settling into vanilla, patchouli and moss. One critic, Persolaise, called it one of the gentler Trade Routes scents while noting a substantial woody-amber base. It is no longer sold in Penhaligon's current range; we have not seen a statement from the brand explaining why.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Penhaligon's stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Lavender lovers who find traditional fougères too barbershop may like how iris and geranium dress it up. Note the woody-amber drydown is fuller than the cool opening suggests.

It is no longer sold in Penhaligon's current range. We have not found an official statement from the brand.

Is Constantinople mainly a lavender scent?

Lavender is central, but pink pepper, iris and geranium shape the opening, while patchouli and oakmoss make the base woody and vanilla softens it.

Is Penhaligon's Constantinople coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Penhaligon's that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
