Fate For Man, inspired by Amouage Fate Man (2013)

Fate Man starts on spice, with ginger and saffron first and then cumin, which can smell faintly of skin or curry. Absinthe, the bitter herb behind the green spirit, adds a dry, slightly smoky edge. In the heart, immortelle (a yellow Mediterranean flower with a maple-syrup, curry-like smell) gives a caramelised tone alongside rose and lavandin. Later on the mood turns resinous and dark, with labdanum and the sweetness of liquorice settling over woods.

About the original

Amouage released Fate Man in 2013 as one half of a pair with Fate Woman, which is a different composition. Fate Man came out under creative director Christopher Chong. It is missing from Amouage's current official sites, and retailers have reported it as discontinued around the early 2020s, though the brand has not dated its withdrawal. An unrelated 'Fate for Men' from another brand also exists, so check the Amouage name when comparing.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Amouage stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Men drawn to Amouage's denser, spicier side will recognise the style. It reads rich rather than fresh, with the sweetness of liquorice and tonka held in check by resin. The cumin and absinthe opening is the main hurdle, and some noses find it harsh until the base takes over.

Mandarin gives a brief citrus lift before the spices arrive, ginger and saffron first, cumin close behind. Absinthe adds a bitter, herbal green note with a touch of smoke.

Immortelle leads the heart, syrupy and slightly savoury, with rose and lavandin around it and cistus deepening it. Copahu, a balsam from a South American tree, adds a resinous, woody tone.

The drydown rests on labdanum with cedarwood and sandalwood beneath, sweetened by liquorice and tonka bean, with musk at the very end.

Is Amouage Fate Man discontinued?

It no longer appears on Amouage's official sites, and retailers have reported it as discontinued. Amouage has not published a date or a statement.

Is this Fate Man or Fate Woman?

Fate Man, the men's half of the 2013 pair. Fate Woman is a separate scent with its own composition.

Does it smell of cumin?

Yes, cumin is noticeable in the opening along with ginger and saffron. It recedes as immortelle and the resinous base come through.

Is Amouage Fate For Man coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Amouage that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
