Golden Needle Tea, inspired by Jo Malone London Golden Needle Tea (2016)

Golden Needle Tea smells of a strong black tea infusion, dark and slightly tannic, with none of the lemony freshness found in many tea perfumes. Sandalwood gives it body, and benzoin, a resin with a vanilla-like sweetness, adds depth. Together they create a leathery, gently spiced impression, which press material linked to the wooden interiors of a tea house.

About the original

It was one of six scents in the Rare Tea Collection, released in April 2016 and created with Serge Majoullier of Mane. Coverage at the time described the collection as a limited edition, and Irish press in 2017 listed it as a 75 ml cologne. Earl Grey & Cucumber, a tea scent from the brand's regular line that is still sold, is a separate fragrance.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Jo Malone London stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Tea drinkers who take theirs strong and dark are the obvious match. With its leathery, resinous character, it evokes a panelled interior more than a garden, which may feel heavy to someone wanting a crisp green tea.

Sandalwood and benzoin build underneath, smoothing the tea and adding a faintly sweet, resinous depth that reads as leather and spice.

Is Golden Needle Tea discontinued?

Yes. It was part of the limited Rare Tea Collection from 2016 and is no longer produced.

Is it the same as Earl Grey & Cucumber?

No. Earl Grey & Cucumber is a regular Jo Malone London cologne that is still sold, while Golden Needle Tea was a darker limited-edition tea scent.

Is Jo Malone London Golden Needle Tea coming back?

It was a limited edition. So far, we have found no announcement from Jo Malone London about a re-release. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.

Inside the EU, delivery is free on orders of €49 or more. Below that it is a flat €4.99. Outside the EU, delivery is a flat €4.99 on every order. We send every order in 1 to 2 working days.
