The brief was a regal jacquard pattern translated into perfume, with three intertwining woods at the heart: oud, palisander rosewood and sandalwood. Raspberry and quince give the composition a brief fruity opening before the woody centre takes over, supported by a quiet animal-like nuance that distinguishes Oud Rosewood from typical sweet oud compositions. The name and inspiration reference the iconic Dior Oblique motif (the jacquard fabric that has marked Dior’s design history). The composition remains active on Dior.com and represents one of the more contemporary additions to the niche Dior line. Our interpretation respects the woody profile.

How It Smells

The opening is unexpectedly fruity for a woody oud, raspberry leading with quince adding a soft slightly tart fruity sweetness that primes the nose for the woody centre to come. Within ten minutes the fruit fades and the wood emerges: sandalwood takes a leading role with its creamy wood character, animalic notes thread through the heart adding a quiet warmth, and palisander rosewood begins to surface with its slightly floral wood quality. The base is where Oud Rosewood reveals its name. Agarwood (oud) dominates the drydown, rendered as polished refined rather than smoky heavy, with palisander rosewood continuing to support and a quiet woody character grounding the composition. The overall impression is regal wood luxury, polished and slightly mysterious.
