Oud Rosewood, inspired by Dior Oud Rosewood (c. 2020)

Oud Rosewood is a study in wood. Dior names three: oud, Atlas cedar with its pencil-shaving dryness, and guaiac, a wood that smells smoky and faintly tarry. Fragrance references add raspberry and quince at the start, which give the first minutes a tart, almost jammy glow before the timber takes over. Beneath it all runs a slightly animalic, leathery feel that keeps it from reading as clean.

About the original

The scent is usually credited to François Demachy and dated to around 2020, though no launch press has been found to confirm the year. Dior compares its three woods to the weave of the house's Oblique jacquard and calls the character regal. In 2023 it was gathered with Oud Ispahan and Purple Oud in a Dior Oud coffret. Dior's own description does not mention rosewood, although some fragrance references list it in the base.

Who it suits

Buyers who already like oud and want a woodier, less floral take than Oud Ispahan should start here. The animalic undertone and fruity opening make it less straightforward than a plain cedar scent, and it may not please people who prefer fresh, clean woods.
