Golden Sand, inspired by Montale Golden Sand (2015)

Citrus and mint make an unusual pairing at the start, the orange and bergamot slightly sweet and the mint giving a cool lift. Spices sit in the background, enough to warm the citrus without making it hot. Violet then brings a powdery tone to the heart, with rose and jasmine filling it out. Creamy amber and sandalwood form the base, with vanilla and white musk keeping it smooth.

About the original

Golden Sand is a Montale eau de parfum that fragrance references date to 2015 and credit to Pierre Montale. It is a different scent from Montale's Sandflowers, which is still sold, and from the similarly named Arabisk Oud Golden Sand. Golden Sand is no longer listed in Montale's official catalogue, and its former product page on the brand's site now says it is no longer available. Montale has made no public announcement, and several retailers show it as out of stock.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Montale stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Retailers describe it as bright and sunny, best in warm weather and during the day. The mint and violet give it a cooler, slightly powdery side, which may not appeal to wearers who want an amber that is purely sweet and resinous.

No. Golden Sand is a separate Montale scent; Sandflowers is a different perfume that remains in the brand's range.

Does Golden Sand smell of mint?

Briefly. Mint sits in the top notes with orange and bergamot and fades as the floral heart comes through.

Is Montale Golden Sand coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Montale that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
