Hot Water launched in 2009 as Davidoff’s bold reversal of the Cool Water aquatic line, designed to express warm spicy masculine character. The brief was a fiery oriental built around wormwood and basil at the opening, paprika (pimento) and patchouli at the heart, and a base of benzoin and styrax. The name “Hot Water” deliberately played against Cool Water’s bracing freshness with warm spicy intensity. The composition arrived in a distinctive dark red bottle. Davidoff discontinued Hot Water some years ago, leaving the spicy companion as a sought-after composition on resale platforms. Per Parfumo: “The production was apparently discontinued.” Our interpretation respects the spicy character.

How It Smells

The opening is unexpectedly bitter and aromatic, wormwood leading with its distinctive bitter herbal character (the absinthe note), basil adding a green herbal support, and a quiet aromatic edge threading through the early phase. Within fifteen minutes the heart unfolds the perfume’s signature spice accord: paprika (pimento) takes a leading warm spicy role with its trademark slightly red-pepper character, patchouli adds earthy modern depth, and a soft spicy nuance continues threading through the middle. The base is where Hot Water reveals its oriental character. Benzoin provides warm balsamic sweet depth, styrax adds resinous balsamic warmth, and a quiet woody character grounds the drydown.
