Luna Rossa Black, inspired by Prada Luna Rossa Black (2018)

Luna Rossa Black opens on bergamot with angelica, a herb whose root smells green, earthy and faintly musky. Within minutes patchouli and coumarin take over; coumarin is the material that gives tonka beans their hay and almond tone. The base is amber wood and musk, rounded and slightly powdery. Sweetness is present but restrained.

About the original

Prada released Luna Rossa Black as an eau de parfum in February 2018, a darker flanker of the 2012 Luna Rossa. It is one of the few versions in the line built without lavender. Prada notes that the bottle was the first Luna Rossa to swap the red line for a black one. Despite rumours of its withdrawal, Prada still sells it, now with a refill size.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Prada stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

This is the Luna Rossa for men who prefer amber and musk to citrus and lavender. It leans powdery and sweet in the drydown, which may feel too smooth for anyone after a crisp, fresh scent.

Bergamot gives a short citrus lift, quickly joined by the green, rooty tone of angelica.

Patchouli and coumarin form the core, earthy on one side and hay-like and almond-sweet on the other.

Amber wood and musk carry the drydown, smooth and faintly powdery.

How is Luna Rossa Black different from the original Luna Rossa?

Unlike most Luna Rossa editions, Black has no lavender. It centres on angelica, patchouli, coumarin and amber, with a sweeter, more powdery tone.

Is Prada Luna Rossa Black discontinued?

No. Despite rumours online, Prada still sells the eau de parfum in Europe and the US, including a refill size.
