Luna Rossa Ocean, inspired by Prada Luna Rossa Ocean (2021)

Prada called Ocean a reinvented fougère, a family built on lavender and herbs over a mossy, woody base. The start is citrus and pink pepper, fizzy rather than hot. Lavender and mugwort, a bitter, slightly camphor-like herb, give it an aromatic backbone. Iris and a saffron accord add a smooth middle, and vetiver, patchouli and musk keep the finish clean.

About the original

Anne Flipo and Carlos Benaïm created Luna Rossa Ocean, released in August 2021 as a flanker of Luna Rossa (2012). It was the first Prada fragrance launched under the L'Oréal licence, with Jake Gyllenhaal as the face of the campaign. An Eau de Parfum and, in 2024, Luna Rossa Ocean Le Parfum followed, each with its own composition. This page is based on the original Eau de Toilette.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Prada stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Retailers present the original as an everyday, easy-wearing scent, and its mix of citrus, lavender and clean musk supports that. Someone hoping for a salty, marine scent from the name may be surprised, as it is more aromatic and iris-led than aquatic.

Bergamot and pink pepper give a lively, peppery-citrus opening.

Lavender and mugwort bring an herbal edge, then iris and saffron smooth it into something more refined.

Vetiver, patchouli and musks form a dry, clean base.

Which Luna Rossa Ocean is this based on?

The original 2021 Eau de Toilette. The later Ocean Eau de Parfum and Ocean Le Parfum (2024) are separate compositions.

Does Luna Rossa Ocean smell aquatic?

Not really. Despite the name, it is an aromatic fougère built on lavender, mugwort and iris rather than marine notes.
