Luna Rossa, inspired by Prada Luna Rossa (2012)

Cool mint and clary sage are the first things to register, with lavender close behind and a little bitter orange for lift. The spearmint is noticeable but kept herbal rather than sweet. Underneath, ambroxan (a clean, ambery-woody material) and ambrette (a plant seed with a musky smell) give a smooth, modern finish. Launch coverage noted that it sits fairly close to the skin.

About the original

Prada introduced Luna Rossa in September 2012, reaching the US in March 2013, with Daniela Andrier as perfumer. The name comes from the Luna Rossa sailing team, which competes in the America's Cup. It started a whole family: Luna Rossa Extreme followed in 2013, with Sport, Black, Carbon and Ocean coming later. This page is for the original eau de toilette.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Prada stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Lavender, mint and a clean musk give it a restrained, uncomplicated character. Mint is prominent at the start, and that cool herbal note will not appeal to everyone.

Is this the original Luna Rossa or a flanker?

The original. Our version takes the 2012 eau de toilette as its reference. The Extreme, Black and Carbon editions, among others, are separate scents, several of which we also make.

Does Luna Rossa smell minty?

Yes. Spearmint and sage give the opening a cool herbal edge before lavender and the musky base take over.
