Mont De Narcisse, inspired by L'Artisan Parfumeur Mont de Narcisse (2018)

Bergamot, pepper and cardamom give the opening a cool, spiced snap. Narcissus then comes forward, a flower with a heady, hay-like side, here leaning powdery. Osmanthus, which smells of apricot and suede, and immortelle, with its salty, maple-syrup tone, pull the heart towards leather. As it dries down the scent turns heavier and more enveloping, ending on that leathery base.

About the original

Anne Flipo composed Mont de Narcisse for L'Artisan Parfumeur's Les Paysages series, inspired by the narcissus fields of the Auvergne. It was announced in August 2018 together with Mandarina Corsica. It is a separate fragrance from Grand Cru Narcisse, an older L'Artisan narcissus also by Flipo. Mont de Narcisse is no longer listed on the brand's websites in any market, while its sister Paysages scents are, though L'Artisan has made no public statement about it.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not L'Artisan Parfumeur stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

A spiced narcissus like this rewards people who enjoy florals with a darker, leathery side. It starts cool and finishes noticeably richer, and the salty, smoky leather in the base may be too much for anyone after a clean floral.

The top is spice and citrus, with pepper and cardamom laid over bergamot.

Narcissus takes the centre with osmanthus and immortelle, giving a powdery floral with a faintly fruity, salty undertone.

Leather closes it, warmer and heavier than the cool opening suggests.

Is Mont de Narcisse discontinued?

It no longer appears on L'Artisan Parfumeur's websites, while other Les Paysages scents are still listed. The brand has not made a public statement.

Is Mont de Narcisse the same as Grand Cru Narcisse?

No. Both are by Anne Flipo for L'Artisan, but Grand Cru Narcisse is an older, separate fragrance.

Does Mont de Narcisse smell of leather?

Yes, in the drydown. Osmanthus and immortelle lead into a leathery base often described as salty and smoky.

Is L'Artisan Parfumeur Mont De Narcisse coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from L'Artisan Parfumeur that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
