Ardent, inspired by Boadicea the Victorious Ardent (c. 2012)

Turkish rose opens with saffron, coriander and carrot seed, which smells earthy and faintly of root vegetables, giving the flower a spiced, slightly savoury frame. Beeswax is the distinctive note: it adds a honeyed, waxy warmth to rose absolute and jasmine. Hedione, a material with a dewy, jasmine-like transparency, sits alongside them. The base layers amber, benzoin and labdanum with patchouli, vanilla, musk and oud for a resinous, smoky sweetness.

About the original

Ardent comes from Boadicea the Victorious, an independent British perfume house. The brand describes it as a smouldering rose built around beeswax and places it in its floral range. A fragrance reference dates it to about 2012; the brand itself does not give a year or name a perfumer.

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Boadicea the Victorious stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Rose wearers who like it honeyed and ambered will find this familiar ground, and the oud and labdanum give it a darker, smokier finish. The beeswax and vanilla make it noticeably sweet, which may not suit those who prefer green or dewy roses.
