Ombre de Hyacinth, inspired by Tom Ford Ombré de Hyacinth (2012)

Galbanum and violet leaf set the tone from the first spray: green, slightly bitter, like crushed stems and leaves. Magnolia petals and olibanum (frankincense) add a pale floral note and a dry, resinous one. Hyacinth arrives in the heart with jasmine and a flick of pink pepper, airy rather than heavy. The base returns to galbanum, now resting on benzoin and musk, so the green character lasts into the drydown.

About the original

Ombré de Hyacinth launched in August 2012 as one of four Jardin Noir eaux de parfum in Tom Ford's Private Blend, alongside Café Rose, Lys Fumé and Jonquille de Nuit. Tom Ford presented the collection as showing the darker side of flowers. Several sources credit the composition to Calice Becker. It is unrelated to Ombré Leather and to the later Opaline Hyacinth, and it no longer appears on Tom Ford's US or UK sites.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Tom Ford stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Green, soapy and quite sharp at the start, it rewards people who enjoy galbanum. The hyacinth is faint and airy rather than lush, which some find thin. Lovers of sweet or creamy florals may find it too austere.

Is Tom Ford Ombré de Hyacinth discontinued?

It no longer appears in Tom Ford's official Private Blend range, and the US trademark for the name was cancelled in 2019. Tom Ford has made no announcement about it.

Is it related to Ombré Leather or Opaline Hyacinth?

No. Ombré Leather is a leather scent, and Opaline Hyacinth is a later, separate Tom Ford fragrance. This page is the 2012 Jardin Noir hyacinth.

What does galbanum smell like?

A green resin with a bitter, snapped-stem quality. It is the note that gives this scent its sharp opening.

Is Tom Ford Ombre de Hyacinth coming back?
