Oolong Tea

Oolong Tea, inspired by Jo Malone London Oolong Tea Cologne (2016)

Oolong is a partly oxidised tea, between green and black, and here it comes across as a roasted, buttery infusion rather than a fresh brew. Bitter cocoa darkens it early on, while tonka bean adds an almond-like sweetness. Hay and tobacco leaf give the base a dry, faintly sweet earthiness. The brand used the word cocooning, and the texture matches: rounded rather than pointed.

About the original

Oolong Tea was one of the colognes in Jo Malone London's Rare Teas collection, launched in spring 2016 and developed by perfumer Serge Majoullier. The collection came in unusually large 175 ml bottles. An official release listed it again from April 2017, this time as 75 ml colognes. It no longer appears among the brand's colognes and remains the house's only oolong scent.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Jo Malone London stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Tea drinkers who take theirs strong will recognise it more readily than fans of green tea colognes. Cocoa and tobacco make it dark and dry, and its bitterness may surprise someone expecting freshness.

Is Jo Malone Oolong Tea discontinued?

It was released in 2016 in the Rare Teas collection, which launch coverage described as limited, with a second run in 2017. It no longer appears in Jo Malone London's range.

Is this a green tea scent?

No. The oolong here is roasted and buttery, and the cocoa, tonka and tobacco make it woody rather than fresh.

How does it relate to Golden Needle Tea and Jade Leaf Tea?

Both belong to the same Rare Teas collection, but each is a separate scent built on a different tea. We make both.

Is Jo Malone London Oolong Tea coming back?

It was a limited edition. So far, we have found no announcement from Jo Malone London about a re-release. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
