Venetian Bergamot

Venetian Bergamot, inspired by Tom Ford Venetian Bergamot (2015)

Bergamot is the star, but it is dressed in spice from the first moment: black and pink pepper, plus ginger, give the citrus a fizzing heat. Instead of fading into a plain musk, it moves into a floral middle of ylang ylang and magnolia with a gardenia accord. The base is woodier and more ambery than the opening suggests. Pepperwood, a spicy woody material, sits there alongside cedar and tonka.

About the original

Venetian Bergamot arrived in the Private Blend collection in 2015. One trade launch report called it an eau de cologne, but retailers sold it as an eau de parfum, and that is how it is usually listed. Retailer copy presented it as a warmer, more sensual bergamot than a classic cologne. Selfridges now shows it as unavailable, and it is absent from Tom Ford's official sites; according to one UK guide to the Private Blend range, it has been discontinued.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Tom Ford stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Citrus lovers who want spice and wood beneath their bergamot are the obvious match. With florals and tonka in the mix it is rounder than a traditional cologne, so a buyer after pure, zesty freshness may find it too plush.

Calabrian bergamot opens with other citrus notes, black and pink pepper and ginger, lively and peppery.

Ylang ylang and magnolia form the heart with a gardenia accord, adding a smooth floral body.

Cedarwood and pepperwood lead the base, then sandalwood, tonka, amber and a cashmere accord give it a cosy, rounded finish.

Is Venetian Bergamot discontinued?

Tom Ford's official sites no longer list it, and Selfridges shows it as unavailable. The brand itself has said nothing publicly that we could find.

Was the original an eau de parfum or an eau de cologne?

Retailers sold it as an eau de parfum, although one launch report called it an eau de cologne. The eau de parfum is the reference for our scent.

Is Venetian Bergamot a fresh citrus?

Fresh at the start, but pepper and ginger, then tonka and amber, make it spicier and rounder than a classic citrus cologne.

Is Tom Ford Venetian Bergamot coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Tom Ford that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
