Neroli Portofino, inspired by Tom Ford Neroli Portofino (2007)

Neroli Portofino is built like a traditional cologne, with neroli and bergamot at the front, sparkling and slightly bitter-green. Orange flower adds a fuller, honeyed floral note, and lavender brings a clean, aromatic thread that stops it turning sweet. Amber sits quietly underneath, giving the citrus more body than a splash cologne usually has.

About the original

Neroli Portofino was announced in 2007 among the original twelve Private Blend fragrances and is usually credited to Rodrigo Flores-Roux. It was reportedly relaunched in 2011 alongside bath and body products, which is why some sources date it to that year. Tom Ford presents it as a reinvention of the classic eau de cologne, inspired by the Italian Riviera. Acqua and Forte flankers followed, and a Neroli Portofino Parfum is now sold as well.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Tom Ford stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Lovers of classic colognes will recognise the structure straight away, though the amber base gives it more weight. It stays fresh and aromatic, with no real sweetness. Fans of rich gourmands or dark woods may find it plain by comparison.

The opening is all citrus and neroli, zesty and slightly green, with mandarin rounding off the bergamot.

Orange flower and lavender form the heart, floral and aromatic in equal measure.

Amber gives the drydown a gentle roundness beneath the citrus.

It was announced with the first Private Blend fragrances in 2007 and is reported to have been relaunched in 2011, which is why both years appear online.
