Citrus Verbena, inspired by L'Occitane en Provence Verveine Agrumes (2006)

Verbena sits at the centre of this scent: a herb whose leaves smell of lemon zest with a green, faintly grassy edge. Mandarin and other citrus peels surround it at the start, so it opens zesty and cologne-like rather than floral. Gradually the citrus thins and a pale layer of blond wood and musk takes over, clean and quiet.

About the original

L'Occitane first launched Verveine Agrumes in 2006 within its Verbena range and reintroduced it in 2015 with matching body products. It shares the range with the plain Verveine eau de toilette, an older and separate scent, and with the 2021 flanker Verveine Cactus, so the three are easy to mix up. The brand has recently repackaged it and says a new natural verbena extract was added, while stating that the fragrance itself is not new. L'Occitane does not assign it to men or women.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not L'Occitane en Provence stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

L'Occitane presents it as a refreshing, revitalising splash, and it suits warm weather and daytime. It is light and herbal, with no gourmand or powdery side. Buyers expecting a rich or ambery perfume will find it too plain.

Mandarin opens it, with other citrus peel (the brand also names bergamot and orange peel) giving a zesty, slightly bitter sparkle.

Verbena then carries the heart: lemony, leafy and a little herbal, like the plant's leaves crushed between the fingers.

Is this the same as L'Occitane's plain Verveine?

No. This page refers to Verveine Agrumes (Citrus Verbena), which adds mandarin and citrus peels. The plain Verveine eau de toilette is an older, separate scent in the same range.

Did the new packaging change the scent?

L'Occitane says a new natural verbena extract was added with the repackaging but that it is not a new fragrance. Its UK and US pages list slightly different heart and base notes.

Is Citrus Verbena for men or women?

The brand does not label it by gender, and the Verbena range is sold as shared. Its herbal citrus profile reads as unisex.
