The Story Behind the Scent

Launched in 2019, Maison Margiela's Replica Whispers in the Library set out to recreate an old library: polished antique woodwork, slow quiet afternoons and the soft sound of turning pages. Built around pepper, benzoin, tonka and vanilla over cedarwood, it became a cold weather favourite with readers and fans of cosy woody scents. Maison Margiela has since discontinued it, and sealed bottles now sell at resale prices.

Our interpretation keeps that library feel. We open on a dry pepper spark, let benzoin and tonka turn it smooth and balsamic, and settle into creamy vanilla over cedar and vetiver. The original was an eau de toilette, so we rebuilt it as a true eau de parfum at up to 40 percent perfume oil for a richer, longer wear.
