Not A Perfume, inspired by Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume (2010)

The original Not a Perfume is made from one ingredient, Cetalox, a synthetic material normally used in the base of a fragrance. Cetalox smells musky and ambery with a dry woody grain, rather like warm skin and clean timber. Because the original has nothing layered on top, it has no citrus opening or floral heart to pass through. The brand calls it clean, fresh and elegant.

About the original

Romano Ricci, the founder of Juliette Has a Gun, launched Not a Perfume in 2010, using Cetalox on its own rather than as a base note. Built entirely on Cetalox, the original is marketed by the brand as one of the only fragrances with no allergens; that claim applies to Juliette Has a Gun's formula, not to ours. Not a Perfume Superdose, a more intense version, came later and is a separate product.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Juliette Has a Gun stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Its appeal is restraint: plain musk and wood, with no sweetness or flowers. A buyer looking for a scent with a distinct opening and drydown may find it too simple.

In the original, the single material, Cetalox, reads dry and ambery with a musky edge from the start.

The original has no separate heart; the same woody amber character simply continues as it dries down.

What is Cetalox?

A synthetic aroma molecule of the ambroxan type, with an ambery, woody smell and a musky edge. Perfumers normally use it as a base note; the original Not a Perfume uses nothing else.

Is this Not a Perfume or Not a Perfume Superdose?

The original Not a Perfume from 2010. Superdose is a separate, more intense version.

We do not claim either. The single-ingredient formula and the allergen-free claim belong to Juliette Has a Gun's original; ours is an eau de parfum inspired by how it smells.

Inside the EU, delivery is free on orders of €49 or more. Below that it is a flat €4.99. Outside the EU, delivery is a flat €4.99 on every order. We send every order in 1 to 2 working days. It arrives in 3 to 7 days across the EU and in 7 to 14 days outside the EU. You have 14 days to return an unopened bottle.
