Classique, inspired by Jean Paul Gaultier Classique (1993)

Classique begins with rose and orange blossom sharpened by star anise, whose liquorice tone gives the opening a distinctive bite. Ginger and ylang-ylang lead into a heart of orchid, tuberose and iris, where the powder starts to build. Vanilla and amber then dominate, with musk and a little cinnamon. The result is flowers and edible sweetness wrapped in powder.

About the original

Jean Paul Gaultier launched Classique in 1993, composed by Jacques Cavallier. The bottle, a female torso in a corset packed in a metal can, refers to the corset designs that made Gaultier famous. Le Male followed in 1995 as its masculine partner, and Classique has since gone through many flankers and concentrations, including Classique X and the Essence de Parfum. The eau de toilette remains in the Gaultier range, and the eau de parfum version is described as heavier and warmer.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Jean Paul Gaultier stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Expect sweetness and plenty of powder, with a sensual, vanilla-rich drydown. It suits people who enjoy vintage-feeling glamour more than those after something fresh. Some find a slight solvent-like note in the first minutes, which fades quickly.

The eau de toilette, which is the main version Gaultier sells today. We also make Classique Essence de Parfum separately.

Does Classique smell powdery?

Yes. Iris, vanilla and musk give it a strong powdery, cosmetic character from the heart onwards.

Is Classique the women's partner of Le Male?

Yes. Le Male (1995) was created as its masculine counterpart, and we make both.
