Colonia Quercia, inspired by Acqua di Parma Colonia Quercia (2016)

Quercia begins with citrus in the Colonia manner, lemon and bergamot with petitgrain and a dusting of pink pepper. Cardamom and geranium give the heart an aromatic, slightly minty spice, with cedarwood adding structure. The base is where the oak theme shows: oakmoss, a lichen with a damp, inky, forest-floor smell, softened by tonka bean and patchouli. The result feels traditional in the way a well-cut jacket does.

About the original

Colonia Quercia launched in May 2016 as the fifth Ingredient Collection Colonia, sold as an Eau de Cologne Concentrée. Acqua di Parma tied it to the aristocratic traditions of Piedmont and described it as a morning walk through an oak forest. In 2019 it was re-released as Quercia Eau de Parfum in the Signatures of the Sun collection, with exactly the same note pyramid, and that version is still sold. Only the concentrée bottling has gone. It is unrelated to Blu Mediterraneo Quercia Marina.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Acqua di Parma stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

A man who already owns a citrus cologne and wants one with more backbone is the obvious match. The oakmoss gives it the poise of a classic woody-aromatic. The mossy, earthy base is old-fashioned by design, and a wearer raised on sweet modern scents may find it too much of the woods.

Oakmoss dominates the drydown, damp and earthy, with tonka bean adding a hay-like smoothness and patchouli some depth.

Is Colonia Quercia discontinued?

Not as a fragrance. The Eau de Cologne Concentrée is no longer listed, but Acqua di Parma sells Quercia Eau de Parfum with the same notes.

Is it the same as Quercia Marina?

No. Quercia Marina belongs to the separate Blu Mediterraneo line and is a different scent.

What does oakmoss add?

A damp, earthy, slightly inky depth that gives Quercia its forest character and classic feel.
