Legend For Men, inspired by Montblanc Legend (2011)

Lavender and bergamot open Legend in the classic barbershop manner, but pineapple leaves and a crisp apple note soon make it friendlier and more modern. Rose and geranium sit quietly in the middle. Coumarin, the hay-like compound behind most fougères, joins tonka bean in the base for a gentle sweetness, while sandalwood and a mossy accord keep it from turning dessert-like.

About the original

Montblanc launched Legend in Europe in April 2011, followed by the United States that summer. Olivier Pescheux composed it, and the bottle takes its cue from the brand's Meisterstück pen. The line has since grown to include an eau de parfum and flankers such as Legend Red, Legend Blue, Legend Elixir and Legend Spirit. This page refers to the original eau de toilette.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Montblanc stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Montblanc describes its top notes as lively and clean, and nothing in it is difficult or challenging to wear. Fans of dry or smoky scents may find the apple and tonka a little too sweet.

Lavender and bergamot lead alongside pineapple leaves, with litsea cubeba, a lemony berry, adding zest.

Apple sits with geranium and rose in a fruity, lightly floral middle, and coumarin brings a hay-like softness.

Tonka bean and sandalwood finish it, with a moss-type note for depth.

Is this based on the Legend eau de toilette or eau de parfum?

On the original 2011 eau de toilette. Montblanc's Legend Eau de Parfum is a later addition to the line.

Is Montblanc Legend sweet?

Mildly. Fruity notes and tonka give it some sweetness, balanced by lavender and bergamot.
