Fantastic Oud

Fantastic Oud, inspired by Montale Fantastic Oud (2018)

Montale's own description calls this a raw oud with sharp edges, and the opening bears that out: oud and incense arrive together with black pepper, cumin and saffron, while bergamot and lemon add only a thin citrus lining. Rose, jasmine and patchouli leaves form the heart. Leather, sandalwood and amber make up the base, with vanilla and white musk, darker and more resinous than sweet.

About the original

Fantastic Oud dates from 2018. Montale wraps it in incense and styrax, a balsamic resin with a smoky, slightly leathery sweetness, and finishes it on leather, sandalwood and ambergris. Tobacco, styrax and ambergris appear in the brand's description but not in its official note list. It is a dark, resinous oud rather than a sweet one, in contrast with sugared Montale scents such as Honey Aoud.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Montale stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Smoke, spice and leather define it, which makes it a scent for someone already comfortable with oud. Newcomers, or anyone who dislikes cumin or incense, may find the first stretch harsh.

Yes. Incense and styrax give it a smoky, resinous character, and Montale itself calls it a raw oud.

Is it sweet like Honey Aoud?

No. Vanilla sits in the base, but leather, incense and spice dominate. Honey Aoud is the sweeter of the two.
