Honey dominates from the start, thick and golden, with cinnamon adding a bakery-like spice. Patchouli leaves bring an earthy middle that stops the honey becoming purely sweet. The oud sits low, in the base with Madagascar vanilla, amber and leather, so it reads as depth rather than the headline. White musk smooths the finish.

About the original

Honey Aoud came out in 2015; fragrance references name Pierre Montale as its creator. Montale files it in its gourmand family, which says a lot about the balance. The brand's description centres on a honeyed cinnamon accord over Madagascar vanilla and oud, rounded by amber and leather.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Montale stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Lovers of sweet ambery scents who are new to oud have an approachable way in here. The honey is pronounced, though, and if honey notes strike you as cloying, something drier such as Black Aoud would be the better choice.
