Fortuitous Finley, inspired by Penhaligon's Fortuitous Finley (2025)

Pistachio opens it, but salted rather than sweet, so the nuttiness has a savoury, almost buttery tone. Violet leaf comes next, green and slightly cucumber-like, which cuts through the richness. Launch copy also mentions cardamom and spice. Leather forms the base, dense and smooth, giving the scent most of its depth.

About the original

Fortuitous Finley joined Penhaligon's Portraits collection in March 2025. In the series' story he is the estate's groundskeeper, and the brand pitches the scent as a fortuitous encounter of spice and leather. One retailer credits the perfumer Caroline Dumur. Penhaligon's does not assign it a gender, though some retailers file it with men's fragrances.

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Penhaligon's stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Gourmand fans who are tired of vanilla and caramel may be the people most drawn to it. Salt and leather make it savoury and fairly rich, so it is unlikely to please someone wanting a light or floral scent.
