Lipstick Rose, inspired by Frédéric Malle Lipstick Rose (2000)

Old-fashioned lipstick, with its violet-scented, waxy powder, is the reference point, and Ralf Schwieger built the scent around it. Grapefruit adds a zesty lift at the top, while raspberry gives the rose a tart, fruity flush. Iris and violet supply the cosmetic powder. Underneath, vanilla and white musk keep it sweet and smooth.

About the original

Lipstick Rose was among the nine founding fragrances of Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle in 2000, composed by Ralf Schwieger. The house describes it as a scent of vintage glamour, inspired by an actress putting on her lipstick. Its powdery, make-up-like character is what defines it.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Frédéric Malle stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Wearers who enjoy retro glamour and cosmetic notes will recognise the idea at once. The powder and vanilla sweetness are prominent, so it is less suited to someone who wants a fresh, dewy rose.

Does Lipstick Rose really smell like lipstick?

That is the intention. Violet and iris recreate the powdery scent of classic lipstick, with rose and raspberry adding colour.

How is it different from Iris Poudre?

Both launched with Frédéric Malle in 2000 and both are powdery, but Lipstick Rose is fruitier and sweeter with raspberry and vanilla, while Iris Poudre is an aldehydic iris.

Is Lipstick Rose a sweet rose?

Moderately. Raspberry and vanilla sweeten it, but grapefruit and powder keep it from turning sugary.
