Mefisto, inspired by Xerjoff Casamorati Mefisto (2009)

Mefisto opens with Calabrian lemon, grapefruit and bergamot, cut with lavender so the citrus feels aromatic rather than sugary. Florentine iris and rose absolute form the heart; iris gives a dry, powdery, slightly rooty texture that keeps the scent refined. Amber, cedarwood, musk and Mysore sandalwood make up a quiet base, more polished than heavy.

About the original

Mefisto is part of Casamorati, the heritage line that Xerjoff sells alongside its main collections. According to Xerjoff, the original Casamorati formula dates to around the turn of the 20th century and was first made for women; the house reissued it in a modern unisex form, dated to 2009 by one fragrance reference. Mefisto Gentiluomo is a separate flanker sold next to it, and the notes here belong to the standard Mefisto.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Xerjoff stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Fresh and fairly restrained, it reads masculine on many people and is usually worn in the daytime. The powdery iris heart is its most distinctive part, which makes it more refined and less zesty than a straightforward citrus cologne.

Ours follows the standard Casamorati Mefisto. Mefisto Gentiluomo is a separate flanker in the same Xerjoff line.

Is Mefisto for men or women?

Xerjoff presents the modern Mefisto as unisex, though many retailers list it as a men's fragrance. The early Casamorati version was made for women, according to the brand.

Does it smell powdery?

Yes, in the heart. Florentine iris brings a dry, powdery quality after the citrus fades, with rose absolute alongside.
