Mixed Emotions, inspired by Byredo Mixed Emotions (2021)

Blackcurrant opens tart and leafy, while maté, the South American herbal tea, gives it a hay-like bitterness. Ceylon black tea in the heart has a smoky, tannic grip, and violet leaf adds a green, almost cucumber-like coolness against it. Birch wood gives the base a tarry, leathery tint, tempered by papyrus. Comforting tea and unsettling smoke sit side by side, which is the contrast the scent was designed around.

About the original

Launched on 4 March 2021, Mixed Emotions was Byredo's response to the emotional turbulence of the pandemic period. The brand describes a deliberate contrast between comforting and disruptive elements, and classes it as a woody scent. Open Sky, a limited edition, followed in May 2021.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Byredo stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Tea notes are the core here, so it appeals to people who like smoky, bitter accords more than flowers or sugar. The birch and black tea can feel austere if you expect a cosy tea scent.
