Black Afgano

Black Afgano, inspired by Nasomatto Black Afgano (2009)

Smoke and resin set the tone from the start. Fragrance references describe a green, herbal cannabis accord sitting on top of tobacco, coffee, oud and incense, pressed together into a dense, almost oily texture. Oud is a dark material from agarwood with a slightly medicinal, leathery depth. There is little relief from citrus or flowers, so the scent stays dark and balsamic throughout.

About the original

Nasomatto says Black Afgano 'aims to evoke the best quality of hashish', and the name makes the reference plain. Alessandro Gualtieri released it in 2009; one database description claims it took around six years to develop, though the brand has not confirmed this. The cap is burnt oak. Published note lists vary, and the shorter list most references agree on is used here.

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Nasomatto stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Smoke is the deciding factor. Fans of incense, tobacco and oud will find plenty to like, while the hashish theme and dense resin can feel heavy to a buyer after something clean or airy.
