New York Oud

New York Oud, inspired by Bond No. 9 New York Oud (2011)

Plum comes first, dark and slightly jammy, with saffron adding a leathery spice and a flick of orange peel keeping the start from feeling flat. Within minutes a red rose opens up and the oud moves underneath it, thick and resinous. Orris, the dried root of the iris, lends a dusty, cosmetic note to the middle while patchouli darkens it. Launch press called the texture velvety, and the finish leans on honey and musk with a dry vetiver edge.

About the original

Bond No. 9 released New York Oud in February 2011, timed for Valentine's Day, as a unisex eau de parfum by Laurent Le Guernec. The New York house built it as a pairing of rose and oud with a fruity plum opening. It is easy to mix up with the brand's other ouds: Saks New York Oud (2013) was a separate Saks exclusive, and Harrods Oud is a different scent again. This page refers to the 2011 New York Oud only.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Bond No. 9 stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Rich is the operative word here. Wearers who already enjoy rose-oud blends will find it familiar territory, done in a full and honeyed style. The plum and honey give it a sweet, sticky side that may not appeal to anyone hoping for a dry, austere oud.

Is New York Oud sweet?

Plum and honey give it a sweet, slightly sticky side, but it is not a dessert scent. Patchouli and vetiver keep the rose and oud on the darker, drier side.

Is this the same as Saks New York Oud?

No. Saks New York Oud came out in 2013 as a separate Bond No. 9 fragrance. This page is inspired by the original New York Oud from 2011.
