Oud Save The Queen, inspired by Atkinsons Oud Save The Queen (2013)

Here the same tea-and-bergamot overture as its partner gives way to flowers instead of leather. Jasmine brings a heady, slightly indolic richness, and orange blossom adds a honeyed, soapy lift. Guaiac wood, which smells faintly smoky and balsamic, carries the oud into the base so the drydown stays woody. The result sits between a white floral and an oud.

About the original

Atkinsons launched Oud Save The Queen in December 2013 as the partner to Oud Save The King, at selected retailers including Harrods. The perfumer is Francis Deleamont of Firmenich (one launch report spells it Delamont). It shares its story with the King: the 1920s romance of an Egyptian crown prince and actress Mabel Normand. Atkinsons sums it up as English refinement combined with oriental mystery, and launch press added clove and tonka bean to the official notes.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Atkinsons stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Women who reach for jasmine or orange blossom scents and are curious about oud will find this an easy bridge. The flowers are prominent, so it reads more floral than the King. Those averse to indolic jasmine may find the heart heady.

What is the difference between Oud Save The Queen and Oud Save The King?

They share the Earl Grey and bergamot opening. The Queen has a jasmine and orange blossom heart over guaiac wood; the King has iris and suede over sandalwood.

Is it very floral?

Jasmine and orange blossom are the main notes in the middle, so yes, more floral than most ouds. The guaiac wood and oud keep the base dry.
