Palatine, inspired by Parfums de Marly Palatine (2024)

Mandarin, bergamot and pear make a fizzy, fruit-led start. Violet petal then takes centre stage, sweet and slightly powdery, with lavandin (a hybrid of lavender) adding an aromatic thread and jasmine filling out the floral side. The base pairs sandalwood and patchouli with musk and a touch of praline. Parfums de Marly calls the result luminous and powdery, yet the fruit keeps it lively.

About the original

Parfums de Marly launched Palatine in September 2024, and it reached US stores on 10 September that year. Julien Sprecher, the house's creative director, said it draws on an 18th-century personality and sets out to revisit violet in a modern way. Trade press credits the composition to Hamid Merati-Kashani, while the brand's own page names only Sprecher. Some launch listings give vanilla instead of praline in the base.

Who it suits

Wearable year-round according to comments gathered by CaFleureBon, it sits between a fruity floral and a gourmand. Violet is the defining note, so it is best for someone who already likes that flower; those who avoid powdery or sweet scents may find the praline base too much.
