Magnificent Blossom, inspired by Yves Saint Laurent Magnificent Blossom (2015)

Jasmine sambac, a variety with a fuller, slightly fruity scent than common jasmine, is the core of this perfume. Orange blossom and ylang-ylang thicken it into a dense white floral. Up top, bergamot and mandarin give a citrus lift, and saffron adds a leathery, honeyed spice. A base of patchouli and amyris, a pale wood with a mild balsamic tone, gives the whole a chypre-like structure.

About the original

Magnificent Blossom arrived in May 2015 as a limited addition to YSL's Oriental Collection, joining scents such as Supreme Bouquet and Majestic Rose, and was sold at Harrods. Its bottle carried gold moucharabieh latticework in a black lacquer Art Deco case. In September 2015 a separate Russia-exclusive limited bottle went on sale at GUM in Moscow, and Russian press credited that edition to Anne Flipo and Juliette Karagueuzoglou. As a limited edition it is no longer produced.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Yves Saint Laurent stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Admirers of grand, formal florals are the obvious audience. Jasmine sambac at this richness is heady, so it may overwhelm if you prefer airy, transparent flowers.

Was Magnificent Blossom a limited edition?

Yes. YSL released it in 2015 as a limited edition in its Oriental Collection, and it is no longer produced.

Is the Moscow edition a different scent?

The Russia-exclusive bottle sold at GUM in 2015 appears to contain the same jasmine composition. The difference was the presentation.

Is Yves Saint Laurent Magnificent Blossom coming back?

It was a limited edition. So far, we have found no announcement from Yves Saint Laurent about a re-release. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
