Royal Water

Olivier Creed’s 1997 bracing aromatic citrus masculine. Bergamot and peppermint into basil and juniper berries, on an ambergris and musk base. Rebuilt at 40 percent oil.
The Bracing Citrus Aromatic, 1997
Royal Water launched in 1997, composed by Olivier Creed as the brand’s polished interpretation of the aromatic citrus cologne tradition. The brief was a bracing fresh masculine built around bergamot and citrus at the opening, basil, juniper berries and peppermint at the heart, and a base of ambergris, musk and woody notes. Where many late-1990s aromatic colognes went either commercial-aquatic (Cool Water) or fougere-heavy (Drakkar Noir), Royal Water pulled into refined niche territory with the Creed luxury signature throughout. The composition has remained one of the brand’s longer-running daytime masculines. Our interpretation respects the bracing character.
How It Smells
The opening is bracingly fresh and slightly herbal, bergamot leading with its sparkling citrus character, peppermint adding a quick cool nuance that distinguishes Royal Water from typical citrus aromatics, and a quiet citrus brightness threading through the early phase. Within fifteen minutes the heart settles into the perfume’s signature accord: basil takes a leading role with its slightly green herbal character, juniper berries add a quiet gin-like aromatic depth, and a soft aromatic continues threading through the middle. The base is the perfume’s classical Creed anchor. Ambergris provides salty mineral warmth, musk smooths the drydown, and a quiet woody character grounds the finish. The overall impression is bracing fresh masculine luxury, polished and refined in the Olivier Creed tradition.
The Notes
Top: bergamot, citrus, peppermint.
Heart: basil, juniper berries.
Base: ambergris, musk, woody notes.
How Our Version Compares
Aromatic citrus compositions like Royal Water reward concentration because the bright peppermint-basil-juniper character can collapse quickly in lower oil formulations. Our European Union production at 40 percent perfume oil concentration provides the body the composition needs, with the bergamot peppermint opening sparkling cleanly, the basil juniper heart holding through the wearing, and the ambergris musk drydown lasting well into the next day on clothing.
Common Questions
How does it compare to other Creed citruses?
More herbal than Neroli Sauvage, less aquatic than Silver Mountain Water, less fruity than Aventus. Royal Water occupies the polished bracing aromatic citrus territory with Creed’s signature throughout.
Is the peppermint prominent?
Distinctly. Peppermint provides the perfume’s signature cool opening, distinguishing Royal Water from typical citrus aromatics. The mint reads polished and refined rather than candy-cool.
Best season and occasion?
Spring and summer especially, when the bracing fresh character reads at its best. Daytime occasions and active settings suit the composition particularly well.
How long does it last?
Eight to ten hours at our concentration, with the ambergris musk drydown lingering on clothing well into the next day. The 40 percent oil approach extends the wearing significantly.
