Starlight, inspired by Xerjoff Starlight

Starlight is built around cardamom, which opens with a green, eucalyptus-cool spice and stays audible from start to finish. Bergamot lifts the first minutes before cinnamon deepens the spice. Almond is the note that gives it comfort, a marzipan-like sweetness that sits between gourmand and powdery. Amber and cedarwood form a dry, resinous floor beneath it, so the sweetness never becomes sticky.

About the original

Xerjoff now places Starlight in its Spotlight collection, while older retailer listings still file it under Shooting Stars; the reason for the move is not documented. Neither a launch year nor a perfumer appears in the brand's own material or in press coverage. Despite the name, the brand presents it as a comforting, spiced scent rather than a sparkling one. Some retailers add carnation to the heart and list ambergris in place of amber.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Xerjoff stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Compared with most spiced scents, Starlight leans toward the cosy end, with almond taking the edge off the cinnamon. The almond accord sits at the centre, so a dislike of marzipan notes is the main reason to pass on it.

Bergamot and cardamom open together, the cardamom cool and aromatic, the citrus brief.

Almond and cinnamon form the heart. The almond reads nutty and lightly sweet, and the cinnamon gives it a baked, spiced quality.

Amber and cedarwood finish it, resinous and dry, with cardamom still detectable on top.

Is Xerjoff Starlight sweet?

Moderately. Almond and amber give it sweetness, but cardamom and cedarwood keep it from becoming a dessert scent.

Is Starlight part of the Shooting Stars or the Spotlight collection?

Xerjoff currently lists it in Spotlight. Older retailer listings use the Shooting Stars name, but it is the same Starlight.
