Casanova opens on bergamot and a powdery accord, with fig leaf adding a green, milky note and orchid with jasmine a gentle floral sheen. Within a few minutes the heart turns richer: leather, myrrh, cardamom and pink pepper sit alongside vanilla and ambergris. Below that, amber and Ambroxan, a clean ambergris-like molecule, are set against cedar and oakmoss, so the sweetness stays anchored to something dry. Powder runs through the whole development.

About the original

Note databases date Casanova to 2014. Today it is sold within Tiziana Terenzi's Anniversary Collection, which retailers say is produced in small yearly batches with the year marked on the bottle; whether it first appeared in another collection is unconfirmed. The brand's story places it on a winter evening at the Venice Carnival and draws on Casanova's memoirs. Paolo Terenzi is generally named as its perfumer.

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Tiziana Terenzi stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

The brand's Carnival story is set on a winter evening, and the dense powder-and-amber texture fits that setting. Fig leaf and bergamot give the opening some air, but the overall feel is plush and sweet-leaning. Powder sceptics should approach with caution, as it never fully clears.
