Terroni, inspired by Orto Parisi Terroni (2017)

A touch of raspberry lifts the composition, a small, dark fruit note set against the woods. Birch brings a dry, faintly tarry edge, while moss and patchouli give the damp-ground quality the name points to. Guaiac wood, cedar and vetiver keep the structure dry and rooty. Benzoin, vanilla and tonka bean sit underneath, taking the rough edges off without turning it into a sweet scent.

About the original

Orto Parisi announced Terroni in June 2017, and it was first sold through First in Fragrance in Germany. The brand frames it as a scent of soil, roots and the volcanic land around Mount Vesuvius, a tribute to the 'southerners of the world'. The official page sells it as a parfum, while some retailers and the launch coverage call it an extrait de parfum. Orto Parisi does not publish a note list, so the notes shown here come from a specialist retailer.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Orto Parisi stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Wearers drawn to patchouli, moss and dark woods will recognise the territory straight away. Terroni is dense and grounded rather than airy, and its earthiness is the whole idea, so it offers little to someone hoping for freshness or florals.

A touch of raspberry sits over birch, a dark fruit note set against something dry and smoky.

Patchouli and moss carry the core, with cedar, guaiac wood and vetiver forming a woody, rooty frame. This is the part that most clearly smells of earth.

Benzoin, vanilla, tonka bean and musk form a balsamic layer that smooths the woods and adds a little sweetness.

Is Terroni sweet?

Not in the dessert sense. Vanilla, tonka bean and benzoin soften the base and raspberry appears at the start, but patchouli, moss and woods dominate.

Is Terroni a parfum or an extrait?

Orto Parisi sells the original as a Parfum; some retailers and the 2017 launch coverage call it Extrait de Parfum. Our version is an eau de parfum.
