The Story

Created by perfumer Olivier Pescheux and launched in 2011 for Diptyque’s fiftieth anniversary, 34 Boulevard Saint Germain is named after the address of the maison’s first Paris boutique. The brief was unusual: capture the actual scent of that shop, where decades of candles and fragrances had layered into the walls. The result is a complex, unclassifiable composition that nods to several Diptyque classics at once.

How Our Version Compares

Our interpretation rebuilds 34 Boulevard Saint Germain at 40 percent perfume oil, a far higher concentration than the lighter eau de toilette and eau de parfum sprays most people know, where the actual oil content is often only a small fraction of that. Made in the EU to careful standards, it is formulated to track the character you remember while giving you stronger projection and noticeably longer wear on skin. Because the oil load is so high, a little goes a long way: one or two dabs at the pulse points is usually enough for the day, and the scent unfolds slowly through its top, heart, and base over many hours rather than burning off within the first one. How it Smells

It opens spicy and green, with cinnamon, clove, and pink pepper meeting tart blackcurrant, fig leaf, and crushed greenery. The heart turns floral but restrained, a dry rose and tuberose threaded with iris and geranium. As it dries down it becomes a bowl of warm, woody potpourri, with sandalwood, resin, amber, and a cool sprig of eucalyptus. Powdery, earthy, and refined, it feels like an old apothecary in the best possible way.
