Arabesque, inspired by The Merchant of Venice Arabesque (2015)

Arabesque leads with tobacco leaves and plum, a pairing that smells dark and jammy, while ginger keeps the start from feeling heavy. Cinnamon arrives in the heart with cedarwood, and tonka bean adds a sweet, almond-like roundness. Benzoin, a balsamic resin with a vanilla tone, carries the base along with vetiver and a soft musk. The overall effect is sweet and spiced rather than smoky.

About the original

The Merchant of Venice released Arabesque in 2015 as part of its Murano Exclusive collection of Eaux de Parfum Concentrées. Its blue and gold bottle draws on the gilded decoration of the Ca' d'Oro, the Gothic palace on Venice's Grand Canal. It is the house's only scent of this name, and it remains in the current range.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not The Merchant of Venice stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Cinnamon and tobacco give it a cosy, gourmand-leaning character. Fans of dry, austere tobacco may find the plum and tonka too sweet, and it is noticeably spicier than most fruity scents.

Not really. The tobacco here is leafy and sweet, paired with plum and cinnamon rather than smoke.
