Tubereuse Nue, inspired by Tom Ford Tubéreuse Nue (2021)

Pepper comes first: timut, a Nepalese relative of Szechuan pepper with a grapefruit-like tang, sharpens the opening tuberose. The flower itself is full and heady, joined by two jasmines, sambac and absolute. Underneath, a suede accord and styrax give the bloom a matte, leathery surface, and Akigalawood (a woody material derived from patchouli, with a peppery tone) adds dry depth.

About the original

Tubéreuse Nue came out in January 2021 as a Private Blend Eau de Parfum. Some secondary sites date it to 2014 or 2017, but launch coverage places it in 2021. The brand pairs nocturnal tuberose with suede and spice and describes the musky base as an 'afterglow'. Note lists vary slightly: the launch version named Szechuan peppercorn, while the current UK page gives timut pepper. The perfumer has not been named in the sources we checked.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Tom Ford stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Tuberose is a dominant flower, and here pepper and suede push it further, so this is a scent for confirmed white-floral fans. Tom Ford markets it as unisex. If tuberose already strikes you as heady or rubbery, this version will not change your mind.

The opening sets timut pepper against tuberose absolute, bright and slightly citrusy at the edges.

Jasmine sambac and jasmine absolute join the tuberose in the heart, keeping it lush, while the suede accord begins to show through.

Styrax and Akigalawood dry it down to a musky, suede-textured base with the tuberose still present.

Is Tom Ford Tubéreuse Nue still made?

We have not been able to confirm whether Tom Ford still produces Tubéreuse Nue.

Is it a sweet tuberose?

Less than many. Pepper, suede and Akigalawood keep it drier and more textured than candied tuberose scents.

When was Tubéreuse Nue released?

In January 2021, in the Private Blend collection. Dates of 2014 or 2017 seen online do not match the launch coverage.
