Cool Water, inspired by Davidoff Cool Water Woman (1996)

Melon-like water notes set the tone from the outset: watermelon gives a pale, almost cucumber-fresh fruitiness and pineapple adds a tart edge. Lily of the valley follows, clean and green rather than heady. Blackcurrant sits in the base with a sheer woody accord, so the finish stays transparent and light.

About the original

Davidoff released Cool Water Woman in 1996 as the women's counterpart to the 1988 Cool Water for men, and the two are different fragrances. The composition is usually credited to Pierre Bourdon, although that attribution comes from fragrance databases rather than the brand. The line is made under licence by Coty, and a Cool Water Parfum Woman was added later.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Davidoff stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Davidoff itself pitches it for everyday wear, the office and warm weather, and that matches its weightless, watery character. Its melon note is very much of its era, so anyone who dislikes aquatic or cucumber-like freshness will probably find it dated.

What does the watermelon note smell like?

Fresh and watery, closer to melon rind than to sugary fruit. It is the note that gives Cool Water Woman its aquatic feel.
