Jasmins Marzipane, inspired by Lancôme Maison Lancôme Jasmins Marzipane (2016)

Jasmine sambac brings the fruity, slightly tea-like side of the flower, and jasmine grandiflorum the rounder, more indolic one (indolic meaning the heady, faintly animal note found in white flowers). Behind them runs what Lancôme calls an almondy-woods signature, bois d'amande, which gives the scent its marzipan character. Cashmeran, a musky woody material with a dusty, cashmere-like feel, smooths the join between flowers and base. The result is a woody white floral with a sweet almond streak, a long way from a fresh garden jasmine.

About the original

Dominique Ropion created Jasmins Marzipane for Les Parfums Grands Crus, the Maison Lancôme collection, where it launched in August 2016 as one of three new florals. It appeared first at Harrods in London and was sold as a 100 ml Eau de Parfum. It has no flankers.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Lancôme stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

The almond note is the deciding factor. Jasmine lovers who enjoy a little sweetness and wood will find it rounded and polished, while a crisp or green white floral is a different thing altogether.

Both jasmines arrive together at the start, heady and floral, with the sambac giving a fruity lift.

The almondy woods surface next, smelling of marzipan over a dry, woody backbone, and the jasmine settles into them.

Vanilla, cashmeran and sandalwood make up the base: smooth, lightly sweet and woody, with jasmine still present at a lower volume.

Does Jasmins Marzipane smell of almond?

Yes. Lancôme built it around an almondy-woods accord that reads as marzipan, set against two jasmine absolutes. It is sweet and nutty rather than a pure almond scent.

Is Jasmins Marzipane still made?

We have not been able to confirm whether Lancôme still produces it.
