Magnolia Rosae, inspired by Lancôme Maison Lancôme Magnolia Rosae (2019)

Only three notes are listed, and the composition is easy to follow. Magnolia gives a lemony, waxy floral tone, rose adds depth and a touch of fruit, and white musk spreads both into a clean, skin-like finish. Mathilde Bijaoui described it as 'a fragrance of skin and flowers', inspired by the velvety petals of a magnolia tree. The musk is what delivers the skin part of that idea.

About the original

Magnolia Rosae was one of four Maison Lancôme scents in a set inspired by French gardens, alongside Figues & Agrumes, Patchouli Aromatique and Pivoines Printemps. It was pre-launched at Dubai Duty Free in spring 2019, with a US launch following around June. Some databases date it to 2018, but trade press places the launch in 2019. It is no longer among the Maison Lancôme scents on Lancôme's UK and Irish sites, though other scents from the collection are still listed there.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Lancôme stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Wearers who find most florals too busy or too sugary will appreciate how few parts it has. With only three notes, it may seem plain to anyone after richness or a dramatic opening.

Magnolia opens with its lemony, waxy petal quality, and rose follows close behind to give it a pinker, rounder centre.

As the flowers fade, white musk takes over, leaving a clean, skin-like trace with a little rose still in it.

Is Maison Lancôme Magnolia Rosae discontinued?

It no longer appears in Lancôme's Maison collection on the brand's UK and Irish sites, though other Maison Lancôme scents are still sold. We found no public statement from Lancôme.

What does magnolia smell like?

Magnolia is a clean, lemony white floral with a slightly waxy, petal-like texture. Here it is paired with rose and white musk.

Is Lancôme Magnolia Rosae coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Lancôme that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
