Le Jardin De Monsieur Li, inspired by Hermès Le Jardin de Monsieur Li (2015)

Kumquat opens it with a tart, slightly bitter citrus note, the small orange that is eaten skin and all. Bergamot adds sparkle, and jasmine sambac sits at the heart, kept delicate rather than heady. Hermès calls the composition floral and vegetal. On skin it reads light and leafy, closer to a garden path than to a vase of cut flowers.

About the original

Jean-Claude Ellena composed Le Jardin de Monsieur Li in 2015, after the Jardins of Méditerranée, Nil, Mousson and Toit. It is meant to evoke a Chinese garden that sits between the real and the imagined. The box carries artwork by Li Xin, and the bottle is by Fred Rawyler. Hermès currently files it in its women's range, although many retailers sell it as unisex.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Hermès stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Lightness is the point here. Someone who likes jasmine but finds most white florals too heavy may welcome this gentler version, while a buyer hoping for a rich, sweet jasmine will find it too restrained.
