Madawi, inspired by Arabian Oud Madawi (2017)

Madawi opens with ripe pineapple, tropical and slightly tangy. Orange blossom follows, and here it is powdery rather than soapy, giving the heart a soft, honeyed bloom. Patchouli and musk anchor it, with the brand also describing amber, wild rose and peach in the blend. The result moves from fruity brightness to a smooth floral-amber finish.

About the original

Arabian Oud founder Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Jasser created Madawi as a tribute to his mother, and the brand presents it under the line 'Every Woman Is a Star'. Retail listings date it to 2017. Two flankers followed, Madawi Gold Edition and Madawi White, along with a Madawi home spray, candle and diffuser. Some retailers label it unisex, but Arabian Oud's own copy is written for women.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Arabian Oud stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Women who enjoy fruity florals with some depth are the natural audience. The pineapple top is quite sweet and tropical, which may not appeal to those who prefer green or austere florals.
