Donna, inspired by Trussardi Donna (2011)

Trussardi built Donna around the idea of white, and the composition follows that brief closely. Yuzu and citron give a pithy, slightly bitter citrus start, with a watery fruit accord keeping it transparent. In the heart, orange blossom is tempered by the dry, faintly tannic note of jasmine tea and the cool petals of water lily. White patchouli, a cleaned-up form of patchouli with its earthy, damp side reduced, sits under cedar and sandalwood, and vanilla adds a little sweetness at the very end.

About the original

Donna launched in 2011 for Trussardi's hundredth anniversary, paired with the men's Trussardi Uomo. Nathalie Lorson composed it, and at launch it was described as a floriental, meaning a floral with an ambery depth beneath. It came out as an eau de parfum, and an eau de toilette followed in 2016. Several other Donna flankers exist, as does an older Donna Trussardi from 1994, which is a separate scent.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Trussardi stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Clean white florals with a touch of sweetness are the territory here, so it suits someone who wants a groomed floral without heavy fruit or sugar. The vanilla is gentle, though a person after a purely citrus floral may notice it in the drydown.

Yuzu and citron open it, edged by a watery fruit note that keeps the citrus from feeling sour.

Orange blossom carries the heart, with jasmine tea lending a dry, slightly green quality and water lily a cooler tone.

The base combines white patchouli with cedar and sandalwood, and vanilla rounds the last stage.

Which Trussardi Donna is this based on?

The 2011 Trussardi Donna eau de parfum, created for the brand's centenary. It is not the 1994 Donna Trussardi or the Donna eau de toilette from 2016.

Is Donna a sweet perfume?

Only slightly. Vanilla appears in the base, but the opening and heart are citrus and white flowers, so sweetness comes late and stays in the background.

Is there a men's version?

Trussardi Uomo was launched alongside it in 2011 as the men's counterpart. It is a separate fragrance.
