Nathalie Lorson’s late 1990s Chopard gourmand bombshell. Honeysuckle and coconut into orchid, violet and strawberry, finishing on caramel, honey, vanilla and patchouli. Rebuilt at 40 percent oil.
The Blue Bottle Vanilla Bombshell
Chopard Wish arrived in the late 1990s, composed by Nathalie Lorson and immediately recognisable for its distinctive blue diamond-shaped bottle. The composition belongs to the great gourmand oriental tradition of its era, the same family that produced Mugler Angel and Dior Hypnotic Poison: a sweet floral opening over a dense vanilla patchouli base, with caramel and honey threading through the heart. It became one of Chopard’s bestselling feminines and has remained the flagship of the brand’s perfume line for decades. Major retailer distribution has shrunk over the years, but the perfume continues in production for those who know to look for it. Our interpretation respects the original profile.
How It Smells
The opening is bright and slightly fruity, honeysuckle and orange blossom giving floral lift with a quick coconut accord adding a soft tropical sweetness. Within fifteen minutes the heart deepens: orchid takes a creamy floral lead, violet contributes a powdered grey character, and strawberry threads through the middle with a soft candied sweetness. The base is where Wish earns its gourmand reputation. Caramel and honey provide layered sweetness, vanilla rounds the warmth, and patchouli grounds the composition with the earthy depth that prevents the gourmand notes from becoming saccharine. The overall impression is rich, sweet, confident, decidedly evening rather than daytime.
The Notes
Top: honeysuckle, orange blossom, coconut.
Heart: orchid, violet, strawberry.
Base: caramel, honey, vanilla, patchouli, woody notes.
How Our Version Compares
Gourmand orientals like Wish reward concentration because the caramel honey patchouli base needs density to develop its characteristic depth. Our European Union production at 40 percent perfume oil concentration preserves the composition’s confidence, with the honeysuckle coconut opening sparkling cleanly and the vanilla patchouli drydown lasting well into the next day on clothing.
Common Questions
Is the original still in production?
Yes, though distribution has narrowed considerably over the years. Wish has been pulled from many department stores but remains available through specialist fragrance retailers. Fresh stock is less reliable than it once was, and resellers sometimes list older bottles where the colour has shifted from blue toward green or brown (a sign of degradation).
How does it compare to Mugler Angel?
Both belong to the late 1990s gourmand oriental family, but Wish is sweeter and less patchouli forward than Angel. Wish leans vanilla and honey, while Angel leans patchouli and chocolate. Most wearers find Wish more easily wearable than the polarising Angel.
What season is best?
Autumn and winter especially, when the dense gourmand base reads at its best. The caramel honey vanilla finish performs beautifully against cold air. Summer wear is possible with restraint, but the warmer half of the calendar suits it most naturally.
How does it project?
Strong in the first two hours, settling into a closer warm skin scent. The 40 percent oil concentration extends the projection considerably compared to the standard eau de parfum format, especially noticeable on coat collars and clothing.
