A*Men Pure Malt

A*Men Pure Malt, inspired by Mugler A*Men Pure Malt (2009)

Malt and barley give the opening a grainy, whisky-cask feel, lifted briefly by fruity notes. Coffee and patchouli from the A*Men base soon come through, made rounder by honey. Peat adds a smoky, earthy thread, the same note that colours certain Scotch whiskies. Compared with the original A*Men it drops the lavender and minty freshness, so the whole thing reads smoother and sweeter.

About the original

Mugler launched A*Men Pure Malt in 2009 as part of the A*Men Pure collection. It came in a 100 ml Eau de Toilette, and the juice is reported to have been matured in oak vats for eight weeks. The perfume is usually credited to Jacques Huclier. It no longer appears on Mugler's UK or US sites, and Pure Havane, Pure Coffee and Pure Tonka are separate editions.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Mugler stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Heavy and rich, it sits best in autumn and winter evenings, which is where those who wore it tend to place it. Men who would like a smoother, sweeter A*Men may prefer it, though anyone averse to smoke or boozy notes should be cautious.

It keeps A*Men's coffee and patchouli base but adds malt, peat and honey and drops the lavender and mint, so it is smoother, sweeter and smokier.

Is Mugler A*Men Pure Malt coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Mugler that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
