Amber Cocoon, inspired by Molton Brown Amber Cocoon

Our version takes a hand-care fragrance and turns it into a wearable perfume, so the starting point is a scent profile rather than a bottle from a perfume counter. Amber sits at the centre, with a spiced, resinous character. Guaiac wood, which has a faintly smoky, tar-like sweetness, gives it depth, and vetiver adds an earthy, rooty dryness. Siberian pine runs through it like a cold, needle-green draught.

About the original

Amber Cocoon is a Molton Brown hand-care scent, documented as a 300 ml fine liquid hand wash, a hand lotion and a two-piece hand collection. No eau de toilette or eau de parfum under this name was found. The two retailer listings disagree on the notes: one gives amber, Indian guaiac wood, vetiver and pine with a spiced aroma, the other orange, vetiver, orris and resinous pine. Its launch year is not documented in the sources we checked.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Molton Brown stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Cold-weather wearers are the obvious match, since retailers position it for autumn and winter. It is cosy and resinous rather than sweet, so a buyer looking for a vanilla-heavy amber may find the pine and vetiver too dry.
