Angel Gold, inspired by Victoria's Secret Angel Gold (2012)

Gardenia is the centre of Angel Gold, a heady white flower kept airy here by plenty of citrus. Bergamot leads, and fuller note lists also give pomelo, pear and orange at the top. The finish is clean musk, which is why a number of wearers compare it to good shampoo. Throughout, it stays light and fresh rather than creamy or narcotic.

About the original

Angel Gold arrived in autumn 2012 as part of Victoria's Secret's Angel line. Fragrance references also carry a 2015 entry with the same name and the same three headline notes, bergamot, gardenia and musk, which may be a re-release or a duplicate listing. It is not listed on the Victoria's Secret US site, and it appears on a published list of discontinued Victoria's Secret perfumes.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Victoria's Secret stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

It is for someone who wants to smell clean rather than seductive. It is airy and gentle, closer to fresh laundry than to a rich bouquet. Its soapy musk and gardenia are the whole story, so a white-floral sceptic will find little else to hold on to.

Heart notes: Gardenia, Peony, Tulip, Water Lily, Jasmine

Base notes: Musk, Vanilla, Amber, Sandalwood, Cedar

Bergamot opens it with a fizzy citrus lift, and some sources add pomelo, kumquat, pear and red berries for a fruity edge.

Gardenia takes over the heart, framed by peony, jasmine, tulip and water lily, which keep it watery rather than heavy.

Musk carries the drydown, with a little vanilla, amber, sandalwood and cedar underneath.

Is Victoria's Secret Angel Gold discontinued?

It no longer appears on the Victoria's Secret US site and is included in a published list of discontinued Victoria's Secret perfumes.

Is Angel Gold the same as Bombshell Gold?

No. Bombshell Gold (2020) is a sweet litchi and vanilla scent from the Bombshell line, while Angel Gold is a citrus and gardenia floral.

Why do people say it smells like shampoo?

The combination of bright citrus, gardenia and clean musk gives it a freshly washed feel that many wearers liken to good hair products.

Is Victoria's Secret Angel Gold coming back?
