Arabian Nights, inspired by Jacques Bogart Arabian Nights (2010)

Caraway sets this apart from the first spray: seedy, savoury and slightly bread-like, paired with green cardamom. Petitgrain adds a bitter citrus-leaf lift. Patchouli and woods soon take hold, and the base turns musky and mossy, with oakmoss giving a damp, forest-floor depth and vetiver a rooty dryness. The drydown has an animalic warmth that divides opinion.

About the original

The reference is most likely the Arabian Nights launched by the French house Jacques Bogart in 2010 as a men's eau de toilette, released the same year as its sibling Riviera Nights. It is generally classed as an oriental fougère, a classic barbershop structure of herbs, moss and woods given extra spice. Many unrelated perfumes share the Arabian Nights name, including scents from Arabian Oud and Gulf Orchid. Fragrance reference note lists vary: one gives incense, tonka bean and vanilla instead of moss and cedar.
